(Performed by Rachel Williams)
written by Doug Brzak
My friends Kathy and Ron twice watched sons march off into the unknown, as both were deployed for service in Iraq as members of the United States Armed Forces.
THIS MAMA'S SON was written as a tribute to Kathy and the thousands of other mothers who have bravely faced this ordeal.
As of this writing, both of these BRAVE WARRIORS have returned home safely to their MAMA!

He's shipping out today her heart's bursting with pride
It's tomorrow that concerns her you can see she's terrified
He stands there like all the rest but he's not just anyone
He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON

He tells her not to worry she smiles and says "I'll try"
She hugs him and kisses him but can't look him in the eye
As he starts to march away she feels a heartache comin' on
He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON

Yesterday she sent him off to school today she sends him off to war
Yesterday she read him fairy tales this ain't pretending anymore

She knows he's got a job to do it won't be an easy task
Just where and what that job is well, she's too afraid to ask
This burden that she's bearing is too big for anyone
He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON

It's completely out of her hands all she can do is count the days
Each time she hears the phone ring it'll take her breath away
He'll come home when he's finished though a war is never won
He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON

With her heart and arms wide-open she'll greet him on the run
He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON

He's on loan to his Uncle Sam but he's still THIS MAMA'S SON
